In Romania, painting is still a powerful medium. Romanian-born painter Mando is currently based in Maastricht. He is self-taught. His abstract painting is actually a mixed media, which he does not want to reveal. He is a Pollock devotee and admirer. Some of his works are in the dripping action technique. Another influence, however unconscious, is that of master Gerdhard Richter. Nebulae, darkness, stardust. Sometimes we can distinguish overlapping layers. Mando has a strong sense of colour and is not afraid to use it. The chromatic palette is harmonious or explosive, tenebrous or luminous, but always well rounded.
